This year I have been exploring the Surrealist movement’s techniques, theories and ideas and how it translates into design and wether it has relevancy in design rather than its association with fine art. This sparked from my own practice which naturally was using the ideas of Surrealism, dreams, fantasy, automatic drawing and poetry.

So, I decided to make my main project into using this but in design concepts such as album covers, zines and film posters. I have many mini projects which I will be using as portfolio work. I have a few projects on book illustration, currently working on a live client brief understanding and learning composition, colour and character design.

Through researching I have referenced illustrators who are very inspiring and helpful to my practice such as Surrealist illustrators Luisa Rivera, Elizabeth Haidle and Evan Cohen as well as commercial illustrator/designer Robert Hunter.

Reviewing my practice throughout the years I considered myself an artist/painter painting from life and wildlife books but since my journey through my course developing my own style, I now consider myself an illustrator. I want to challenge myself to create and think like a designer but with the artistic ideas and techniques.
